The challenge:
Although Comfama had the core of its business on a cloud platform, it decided to migrate its APIs to a different cloud with Itera and AWS to consolidate its infrastructure, in addition to the fact that they already had other applications running on this platform.
Comfama took on the challenge, considering that it had in its integrations important services supported by technologies that were no longer in force, which needed to be redefined to improve security, scalability and execution efficiency.
The organization was challenged to improve the response times, scalability, and modernization of its internal systems, and understood that migrating to a new cloud would be the best way to achieve those goals.
“The objective was to unify the infrastructure components to obtain greater integration capacity by being supported under the same manufacturer, achieving greater operational efficiency and reducing costs,” said Fabio Pulgarín Gaviria, professional advisor to Comfama’s Architecture team.
What did we do?:
To execute the modernization process, Comfama relied on Itera to build the project and the architecture. In this process, Amazon Web Services (AWS) was present during the migration project, previously verifying its viability.
Pulgarín Gaviria recalls that during the planning of the project they explored and researched different cloud solutions that supported the integration capabilities implemented in Comfama’s APIs. “We found that Amazon API Gateway supported the integration needs,” he said.
Hand in hand with Itera, in addition to migrating APIs to the AWS cloud, Comfama implemented solutions to centralize and implement custom configurations that would allow internal use cases to be fulfilled in a transversal way.
“For us, Itera’s willingness was really fundamental. The other thing is that when you work with suppliers you always expect them to assign you the best people to make the project go ahead, but here we didn’t have to ask for it. That was also one of the important points for us,” said Pulgarín Gaviria.
By migrating APIs and optimizing integration processes, Comfama was able to have an impact on the functional part, reducing infrastructure and development costs to achieve the proposed goal: to have a more cost-efficient technology.
In addition to these benefits, Pulgarín Gaviria explained that, with the implementation of the project, it is now possible to provide the areas with self-management capabilities to speed up the development of new integrations.
According to Jorge Henao Restrepo, IT platform manager of Comfama’s Infrastructure and Cloud team, the future looks interesting to bring new capabilities to AWS. “We want to make the most of the available components and I think we have what it takes to move forward in that process. Now it gives us a very great part of peace of mind to have the accompaniment of Itera and the AWS team.”
