The challenge:

Its physical infrastructure had reached the limit of capacity, which represented an obstacle to its growth and digital transformation. To ensure operational continuity, improve efficiency, and lay the foundation for future innovations, GS1 made the decision to migrate its critical systems to the cloud.
In collaboration with AWS, ITERA was selected as a strategic partner thanks to its extensive knowledge, certifications, and experience in cloud services.

What did we do?:

The process began with the definition of a clear and strategic roadmap. This path was divided into four main waves:

  • In the first stage, the elements originally designed to operate in the AWS cloud were migrated, ensuring an agile and seamless start.
  • Stages two and three represented the biggest challenge. Here, critical systems were migrated and some key platforms had to be refactored to maximize their performance within AWS components.
  • Finally, in the fourth wave, cloud infrastructure was consolidated, leaving behind the limits of a physical and finite environment.

    The joint work of ITERA and AWS engineers and specialists not only ensured operational continuity during the transition, but also provided invaluable technical support to optimize operations. Thanks to this effort, the company has been able to establish a solid foundation for its technological evolution.

The results:

The implementation of the cloud solution allowed GS1 to transform its operational capacity and offer a more agile and efficient service to its more than 60,000 affiliated companies, providing:

  • A 40% increase in data processing capacity, allowing large volumes of information to be managed without interruptions.

  • Availability of more than 99.95%, guaranteeing operational continuity for its users nationwide.

  • A 35% savings in operational costs thanks to the optimization of cloud resources and the pay-as-you-go model.

  • 50% faster response time in reporting and queries of key data for affiliated companies.

  • Auto-scale during high-demand events, such as bulk barcode mapping, ensuring consistent performance without impacting the user experience.

  • Data protection with international security standards, complying with privacy regulations and guaranteeing the integrity of information.

  • Migration completed in less than 6 months with a strategic implementation plan that minimized downtime.
  • 24/7 support and monitoring, allowing to identify and resolve possible incidents before they impact users.
