The challenge:
Due to the diversity of tools used in the laboratories of the University’s multiple degrees, they needed to have an environment that would allow them to have agile management, flexibility adapted to demand, that was centralised, that would reduce direct dependence on physical resources, and that would have the possibility of multi-platform access from any device.
The UFV required an environment with a secure and direct connection, connected and communicated with its own resources, which allows it to integrate with user management, security policies and single access from the student management and teaching portals.
The main objective to be achieved is to provide the University with the capacity to deploy the different laboratory environments necessary in each period of the year, allowing flexibility in their management and deployment, as well as elastically dimensioning the volume of resources.
What did we do?:
Our specialists designed an architecture based on the Amazon AppStream 2.0 service, generating a set of different stacks (blocks of applications). In each of them, the necessary tools for each training / course specified and demanded by the University were integrated, which allowed the deployment of the tools of the laboratories.
Access management and control, as well as the connection for users to each stack, was managed through the integration of UFV’s Active Directory with Amazon Web Services authentication services using a SAML connection and the Amazon IAM service. In this way, the connection with the student and teacher directory with AWS resources was extended, granting a secure and limited connection according to the user profile.
This integration provided the UFV with control of users for the processing of their registration and permission to access the different stacks. Communication and connection were defined so that there is only communication with the University’s own resources.
The results:
To have a secure, connected and communicated environment with its own resources that manages to integrate with user management, security policies and single access from the student management and teaching portals.
Have the capacity to deploy the different laboratory environments necessary in each period of the year, providing flexibility in their management and the ability to elastically size the volume of resources.
