UAM Azcapotzalco Success Story: Educational Modernization with Generative AI

THE CHALLENGE

The UAM Azcapotzalco sought to transform its educational processes without increasing operational complexity. The main challenges included:

-Support students in the preparation of extraordinary exams with accessible study resources.

-Reduce the teaching effort in the creation of syllabuses and materials aligned with the curricula.

-Adopt emerging technology in a secure, flexible and scalable way.

-Accelerate educational innovation through experimental cases of AI in strategic areas of the university.

WHAT DID WE DO?

We designed and implemented a Generative AI solution on AWS, integrating advanced services under a secure and scalable model. We also develop:

- Academic assistant based on Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Lex and Amazon Q Business, accessible from the web portal.

- Automation of syllabuses in JSON format, aligned with curricula and academic objectives.

- Conversational interface that offers personalized study recommendations and resources.

- Experimental applications of AI to explore new teaching methodologies.

- Security and access control using Amazon Cognito, AWS WAF, HTTPS encryption, and Amazon Identity Center.

- Document storage and vectorization with Amazon S3 and Amazon OpenSearch Serverless.

- Serverless and on-demand architecture, guaranteeing flexibility and scalability without increasing operational complexity.

RESULTS

- 90% effectiveness in the answers of the AI assistant.

- 85% satisfaction of teachers and students according to internal surveys.

- Significant reduction in the time it takes to create syllables and materials.

- Improvement in the academic preparation of students for extraordinary exams.

- Promotion of educational innovation through experimentation of new AI applications.
